Group Three winner Spencer will have a new trainer next to his name in the racebook when he heads to Wanganui on Saturday to contest the Manawatu ITM 1340.

“He is going to cart a bit of weight, which is to be expected, but we are very happy with the way he is going into the race.” 

It may not be the Cup target they were aiming for, but Wolfgang put himself firmly into Gr.3 Martin Collins New Zealand Cup (3200m) calculations following his victory in the SkyCity Hamilton Waikato Cup Prelude (2400m) at Te Rapa on Monday.

“I thought his second run over there was good and he was coming on well, but he just didn’t put in at all on Saturday."

“There are still a couple of races after that to find out if we can get into the Melbourne Cup, and if not, there is some good money on offer over there.” 

Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) hopeful Wolfgang will fly to Melbourne on Wednesday to commence his path towards the A$10 million feature.

“Otherwise, we’ll follow similar races to last year but just stay on longer. That’s the plan at this stage.”
