Money Catcher seeking maiden Hong Kong victory

Money Catcher will be out to score his first win in Hong Kong at Happy Valley on Wednesday when he contests the Class 2 Chater Handicap (1800m).

The Kiwi-bred finished third in both the Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) and BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) in his last two starts.

“I’ve decided to send him to Happy Valley – he has had one trial there previously, so I think he is okay to race at the track,” trainer Frankie Lor said.

“I want to see, this race should be suitable for him.”

Money Catcher has raced four times in Hong Kong, displaying steady progress in each outing after arriving from New Zealand where he raced as Jason Belltree for trainers Bruce Wallace and Grant Cooksley.

In his homeland he won one of his eight starts, and placed in four others, including the Gr.2 Auckland Guineas (1600m), Gr.2 Avondale Guineas (2100m), and Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes (1400m).

Money Catcher was originally purchased out of Haunui Farm’s 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock May Sale by Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Industry for $13,000, before going through Regal Farm’s 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale draft where he was bought by Mr R Suzuki for $60,000.
