Well-related gelding Hi Yo Fox Rox broke through for his maiden win at the second time of asking when taking out the Manawatu-Whanganui Civil Contractors NZ Maiden (1600m) at Wanganui on Saturday.
A nail may have scuppered her early summer targets, but Taranaki mare Hi Yo Sass Bomb is back on track and thriving ahead of her resuming run in Saturday’s Gr.2 Harcourts Thorndon Mile (1600m) at Trentham.
“I was thinking ‘crikey Chris’ going to the front, but she was super, she’s really tough. I was thinking don’t go too soon, but it was a super ride, really well done.”
Group One performer Hi Yo Sass Bomb showcased that she’s on target for an exciting spring campaign when winning her 1000m heat at the Foxton trials on Tuesday.
Taranaki mare Hi Yo Sass Bomb already has a Group One placing next to her name, and owner-trainer Kim Reid is hoping to improve on that in the coming months.
“I think he’ll get over a bit more ground, but as he strengthens up, I think he’ll make the shorter distances as well. He’s got such a big stride on him.”
