Opawa Jack prevailed in a battle of attrition in Sunday’s K9 Petfoods Ltd Wairoa Cup (2100m), carrying his 60kg impost to victory on rain-affected footing in the Waipukurau feature.
Apprentice rider Lily Sutherland followed her pre-race instructions perfectly to land rugged four-year-old Opawa Jack an impressive winner of the Open 1600m event on the card at Otaki on Saturday.
“He is probably going to be better suited over there, so we will look for another trainer for him because I am pretty busy with our ones here at home.”
