It was a memorable day for Andrew Scott on Friday, firstly hearing the news his daughter was awarded the NZTR McKenzie Future Leaders Scholarship before he went to Te Rapa where he and training partner Lance O’Sullivan recorded a winning treble.

Group Two performer Checkmate will head to his home track of Matamata this weekend for a mile test before trainers Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott look to step him up over more ground.

Tomodachi’s connections are banking on a target closer to home to bring out the best in the gifted mare on Saturday.

“They have all been racing well and there are good and genuine reasons why they should perform well and we’re looking forward to it.”

“It would be nice if someone could pick her up as well, she’s certainly worthy.”
