Enigmatic stayer Diamond Jak virtually carried the grandstand to an emotionally stirring victory in Saturday’s Paul McGlade Taumarunui Gold Cup (2200m) at Te Rapa.

With the weather closing in again towards the tail end of a memorable Matamata Breeders’ Stakes day, it was left to Diamond Jak to add some further sparkle to proceedings as he bolted away with the Listed Kaimai Stakes (2000m).

“Mark has done a great job with him and he was unlucky not to win last year. He was the fittest and best horse here today.”

“I thought Diamond Jak won very well today. He was strong."

“We’ve been going alright through the winter, and it was another really good day today."

Diamond Jak continued his purple patch of form at Te Rapa on Saturday when taking out the Dunstan Horsefeeds 2100.
