Wanganui trainer Jo Rathbone had a successful day at the office at Trentham on Thursday when scoring a winning double, including taking out the Trentham Supporters Group Wellington Hurdles (3200m) with exciting jumper Billy Boy.
Globetrotting gelding Affordable will add another string to his bow at Trentham on Saturday when he makes his jumping debut in the Stephanie Murray Mortgages Maiden Hurdles (2500m).
Billy Boy put his hand up as one of the country’s most exciting jumpers last year following his Manawatu-Wellington Hurdle double at Trentham, and trainer Jo Rathbone is hoping he can repeat that feat this year.
Unbeaten hurdler Billy Boy will make his debut over the bigger fences at Te Aroha on Sunday, with a view on returning to the track for a lucrative feature early in the new season.
“He’s quite a relaxed horse, he always gave me the impression that he’d go over a trip and he’s been doing a bit of jumping as well, which he’s enjoyed.”
