Former Gr.1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) winner Asterix took 11 races and more than a year to record his first stakes victory in Australia, but now he has gone back-to-back.
Wexford Stables have fond memories at Ellerslie with Asterix, and they are hoping to add another when they head to the Auckland track this Saturday to contest the Gr.2 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup (3200m).
Talented stayer Asterix returned to the scene of his greatest triumph when he stormed home to take out the Gr.2 Eagle Technology Avondale Cup (2400m) at Ellerslie.
“He’s coming up very well, his trial was very encouraging and he trialled in a manner that suggests he’s got good confidence and striding out in his movement."
